Preworxs, a subsidiary of a prominent Dutch installation firm, specializes in developing prefabricated modules aimed at achieving gas-free and sustainable homes within 24 hours. These modules not only minimize onsite errors but also provide a more space-efficient alternative to traditional onsite installations. At the heart of this system lies an insulated dormer that is uniquely installed in an inverted manner within the roof structure. This strategic placement situates the outdoor unit within the roof plane while still keeping it exterior to the house. Additionally, a service hatch facilitates easy access for technicians to the outdoor unit. Internally, all the technology associated with heat pumps, boilers, and electronics is securely mounted onto a steel frame. The entire installation can be seamlessly lifted into the house through a specially designed recess in the roof.

UN Goal
In partnership with Preworxs, ManGo Product Design co-created the prefabricated module named Indak Skid. ManGo undertook the challenge of crafting an appealing and practical design that seamlessly blends into residential settings, all within a demanding timeframe of only four months for initial installations had to take place. Leveraging ManGo’s swift development approach, the Indak Skid was promptly showcased at trade exhibitions and incorporated into Preworxs’ product lineup within the specified timeframe.
In the initial phase of the development process, members of our design team toured the Preworxs factory. During this visit, we meticulously observed the assembly process of the modules and directly pinpointed areas with potential for improvements. Additionally, we engaged in discussions with installers to understand the intricacies of the installation process and relevant considerations. This analysis served as the cornerstone for subsequent design refinements, encompassing enhancements in cable routing, production cost reduction, assembly time streamlining and advancements in accessibility for installation and maintenance.
The initial design by Preworxs was found to be excessively labor-intensive, leading to their supplier struggling to meet the demand for test batches. In order to enhance assembly efficiency, ManGo developed and assessed several proposals. The most promising proposal involved adopting HSB (Wood Skeleton Construction) as the primary construction method. This approach not only provided scalability and versatility across various housing configurations but also minimized environmental impact. Additionally, to ensure seamless integration of the system into its surroundings, an elegant sheet metal cover grid was designed. This grid was meticulously engineered to maintain adequate airflow for optimal functionality while facilitating easy folding for maintenance purposes.
