Hospital Bed Design for a Global Market
MAK Techno is Indonesia’s leading hospital bed manufacturer, producing more than 60.000 beds annually for its domestic market. With extensive engineering and manufacturing capabilities in-house, the company had everything needed to expand internationally. The missing piece was a new generation of hospital beds with the design, technology and ergonomics to compete with established manufacturers from Japan, the USA and Europe. MAK asked ManGo Product Design to develop that next generation, resulting in the Infinity series of electrically operated hospital beds.
Bringing Technology, Ergonomics and Design Together
A hospital bed is much more than a piece of furniture. Patients may spend days or weeks in it, while nurses and caregivers interact with it continuously throughout their shifts. Every adjustment, surface and mechanism therefore needs to balance patient comfort with safety and intuitive operation. ManGo translated these requirements into an integrated product architecture, combining four-motor electric adjustment with features such as one-handed safety guards, caregiver controls and an Auto Regress backrest mechanism designed to provide greater comfort as the patient changes position.
Designed Around Everyday Hospital Use
In a hospital environment, good design also means making everyday tasks easier. The Infinity bed incorporates an integrated weighing system, allowing caregivers to weigh patients with limited mobility without transferring them to another device. Removable mattress platforms provide easy access for cleaning and maintenance, while a 20 cm bed extension accommodates taller patients. Throughout the development process, ManGo considered these interactions from both sides of the bed, creating an environment that is comfortable for the patient and practical for the people providing their care.
From Yogyakarta to the International Market
ManGo managed the complete development process from concept design through to prototyping, working closely with MAK’s engineering and manufacturing teams in Yogyakarta. Our designers and engineers regularly worked on site in Indonesia, shortening communication lines and allowing design decisions to be evaluated directly alongside MAK’s production capabilities. The resulting Infinity bed represents a major step forward in technology, ergonomics and aesthetics; combining MAK’s manufacturing expertise with a product identity designed to stand confidently alongside international hospital equipment brands.
