Designing the Future of Urban Mobility
Ola Electric’s mission is to transform the way people move through cities with sustainable and intelligent mobility. ManGo Product Design contributed to this vision by working alongside the Etergo team on the design and engineering of their pioneering electric scooter, later known as the Ola S1. The scooter was the first of its kind to integrate navigation, music, calls, and delivery apps directly into its interface. When Etergo was acquired by Ola Electric in 2020, the design laid the foundation for a product that would become a global success, with over one million scooters now on the roads across India.
From Startup Vision to Scalable Design
ManGo joined Etergo early in the development process, supporting the team in turning their concept into a production-ready scooter. Our designers and engineers focused on key components such as the lighting units, the multimedia speaker, and the drive sound generator. Each element was designed for efficiency, manufacturability, and reliability. ManGo also assisted in the design for manufacturing of the main body, homologation type approval, and the sourcing of reliable production partners across Europe and Asia. Through continuous iteration and testing, the scooter evolved into a refined, future-ready product built for mass production.
Award Winning Innovation
The AppScooter, as it was originally called, was more than a stylish vehicle. It represented a step toward smarter, more connected mobility. Its seamless integration of digital services and intelligent engineering earned it the prestigious German Design Award in 2020. The acquisition by Ola Electric marked the next phase, with the scooter’s design and production scaled globally. By 2021, Ola had built the world’s largest electric scooter factory, producing over a thousand units per day, accelerating the shift toward cleaner transportation.
From Prototype to Global Impact
The collaboration between Etergo and ManGo Product Design paved the way for one of the most successful electric scooters ever produced. What began as a startup idea in Europe grew into a market-leading mobility solution in India. Today, Ola Electric has sold over one million scooters, becoming a ten billion dollar company. The project stands as a testament to how strong product design, strategic partnerships, and a focus on sustainability can reshape entire industries.
