GOAL3: Patient Monitoring System

Empowering Health Workers
GOAL3’s mission is to make quality healthcare accessible where it is needed most. Together with ManGo Product Design, the organization developed a pediatric monitoring system that delivers hospital-grade functionality in challenging environments. Designed for use in low and middle income countries, the IMPALA system helps medical teams monitor vital signs efficiently and accurately, even in areas with limited resources. The goal is to improve healthcare access for 100 million people by 2030. The collaboration focused on developing a robust, affordable, and user friendly device capable of performing reliably in harsh conditions while giving health workers the tools they need to save lives.
From Regulation to Realization
Developing medical devices demands precision and adherence to strict standards. ManGo began by managing the ISO13485 audit of the selected manufacturer, ensuring all regulatory requirements were integrated from the start. With clinical trials in Malawi planned only six months after project initiation, the team worked under tight deadlines. Despite the pace, every step of the process, from defining specifications to engineering prototypes, was guided by international medical norms. Design and usability went hand in hand, resulting in a product that was both compliant and intuitive for healthcare workers to use under pressure.
Engineered for Real World Conditions
The IMPALA system was designed to endure tropical heat, humidity, and demanding use. A rugged protective sleeve shields the device from drops, while internal airflow and cooling systems protect sensitive electronics. Through Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis and thermal testing, ManGo ensured the monitor could operate safely in extreme climates. The sturdy handle adds portability, a critical feature for healthcare providers who move between wards or remote clinics. Every design choice was driven by practicality and field tested durability.
A Life Saving Solution in Action
Fifty IMPALA monitors were built for clinical trials in Malawi, where they underwent extensive testing for performance, water resistance, and durability. The results confirmed a reliable, easy to use system that meets the highest safety standards. Today, GOAL3 technology is being used in many hospitals across dozens of countries in Africa, supporting medical professionals in delivering better care to children and patients in need. The partnership between GOAL3 and ManGo demonstrates how thoughtful design and technical excellence can create real world impact in global healthcare.
